Programs

Education: Each year the Theater offers more than 250 performing arts classes serving nearly 5,000 area youth. Programs include:

Acting and Drama Classes: Year-long after school classes in addition to Saturday morning drama classes are offered at three different locations.

Dance Classes: On the educational side of the Ballet, young people are given the opportunity to establish and develop their skills in the area of dance through classes and professional caliber productions. Classes include ballet, tap, jazz, and musical theater. Students also have the opportunities to take part in professional productions such as Dracula, Romeo & Juliet and, of course, The Nutcracker.

School Field Trip Performances: Special weekday performances with discount pricing are held for nearly every production. Classroom study guides available for each performance.

Residencies: Drama or dance workshops are taught in the school, and tailored to fit individual curriculum needs.

Metro Tour/Assemblies: Curriculum based productions can be performed at the school for any size group from 15-500, without any special technical requirements.

Full and Half-Day Workshops at The Rose: Our educational staff work with teachers to bring their curricula to life. Our workshops enhance lessons in language arts, social studies or science.

Outreach Programs: The Theater is known for innovative programming and community involvement. The educational sponsorship program, “Every Single Child,” brings a substantial drama or dance experience to every child in the school.

Theater Summer Camp: Teens ages 11-18 take part in a week-long adventure at the Platte River State Park. Traditional camp activities along with drama workshops are offered over two one-week sessions.

Teens N’ Theater: Teens N’ Theater is a youth theater program for and by junior and high school students. Created in 1994, its mission enables teens the chance to develop positive self-esteem, responsibility and commitment through various aspects of theater. These areas of theater include acting, directing, writing, designing and stage-managing. Up to eight different plays are staged by teens each season, and the program also includes a multicultural component showcasing the talents of the newly formed African American troupe; Young, Gifted & Black, and the bilingual players of Teatro Mestizo. In the coming season, Broken Mirror will have its sixth annual production and the Young Playwrights Festival marks its eleventh year.

Technical Theater: Students learn the ins and outs of backstage as they create the lighting, sound, scenery and props for the summer class productions.

Outreach & Touring Programs: The Omaha Theater Company is known for innovative programming and community involvement. This season, the National Tour Company will tour Berenstain Bears On Stage!. More than 200,000 people are served by the Theater each year through its Outreach and Touring Programs.

Multi-Cultural & Minority Programs: The Omaha Theater Company serves the entire range of area population. Two Teens N’ Theater productions have multi-cultural content; creative drama classes which focus on Native American, African American, and Hispanic cultures are taught at the theater and the Pride Players have become a model program for teens creatively dealing with sexual orientation, prejudice and acceptance issues. In addition, all productions are interpreted for persons with hearing impairments and are fully accessible to persons with physical disabilities.
